PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of either the beginner obedience course or the off-leash program.

This course is designed around the families that wish to not only add to the vocabulary their dogs have acquired through the beginner course, but also wish to continue to strengthen the training their dog has already received.

THERAPY PREPARATION CLASS - This class is available to graduates of the Off-Leash Program or the Intermediate Class. Although the Canine Good Citizen Certification is not a requirement, we suggest you first achieve the CGC prior to the Therapy Preparation Class.

The Therapy Preparation class will guide you and your canine companion through the necessary steps to become a registered therapy team. Therapy Dogs are welcome in Nursing Homes, Hospitals, Schools and a variety of other facilities.

The first meeting will be in our Oxford Training Center where we will educate you on the requirements of a Therapy Dog, by introducing your dog to wheel chairs, walkers and other distractions they will encounter. We will also supply you with the necessary information needed to register the dog for testing upon completion of the class.

The next two meetings will be in actual Assisted Living Facilities. Your trainer will guide you and your dog as you introduce them to the residents and staff.
The final meeting will be held back at the Oxford Training Center where we will run you and the dog thru the actual test that will be required prior to registration. We will also test your dog for the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) or the more advanced Community Canine Good Citizen (CCGC) testing dependent upon if your dog has already acquired his/her CGC. Our trainers will give you suggestions for improvement prior to your scheduling of the formal test.

The cost of this class is $225. To register, simply call the office @ 248-236-0287. The class size is limited to 15 dogs, so don't delay, register your dog today.
