As you begin to investigate training for your family dog, you will find there is a wide variety of services available. As with most things, one size does not fit all. Be wary of companies offering “quick fixes” to problem behaviors. The focus should be on teaching your dog what you want…not punishing them for what you don’t want. Punishment techniques can result in a fearful dog. Look for a company that provides consistency and support from multiple Trainers in multiple locations. This will clarify the learning process as the dog will receive the same message, from multiple people, in different locations. Look for a company that understands and supports your lifestyle; as you are more than likely not a dog trainer and unable to dedicate hours each day practicing and unwilling to wait years for the finished product. Choose a company that is active in their program offering one-on-one training with the dog, group training with the owners and their dogs and public outings, as all of this will be required to finish the job. Training is an investment that will repay you every day of your dog’s lifetime. Don’t choose the closest, cheapest or quickest; choose the BEST!
